Supply of an Atomic Force Microscope
Please note that this is not a call for tenders but a publication announcing the Contracting authority’s intention to publish a future negotiated low or middle valueprocedure.

Unit F.2 is active in the characterization of nanomaterials since many years and in particular in their physico-chemical characterization and interaction with biological systems. Both aspects need special microscopy techniques, since conventional optical microscopy techniques are limited in resolution. Today, one of the golden standards for nanomaterials characterization is Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). AFM is able to measure nanomaterials and characterize their mechanical, electrical and optical properties and it can work in different environments. Moreover it can work directly on living cells in-vitro, including their nanomechanical characterization and nanomanipulation and controlled dispensing of nanomaterials. These studies will have an enormous impact on institutional projects like PITCH, SAMSON and TEMPO all involving the characterization of nanomaterials as well as the outreach activities, where AFM is one of the most requested techniques. Thus, the unit F2 (Technologies for Health) of the directorate Health consumer and reference materials intends to purchase an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM).
