Title	Quantification and composition analysis of plastics in the residual (mixed) fraction of municipal solid waste
Description	Please note that this is not a call for tenders but a publication announcing the Contracting authority’s intention to publish a future negotiated low or middle valueprocedure. The study will provide an assessment of the composition of plastics in the residual, mixed fraction of municipal solid waste in various Member States, based on a methodology to be developed by the Contractor and an actual sampling and analysis of mixed municipal waste. Current waste statistics show a discrepancy between the amounts of plastic put on the market and those ending up in waste. Despite a certain fraction of plastics remaining in the society, it is assumed that a substantial fraction of plastics ends up in the mixed fraction of municipal waste. This hampers the subsequent recycling of plastics. A better understanding on the amounts and types of plastics that end up in the mixed muncipal waste will thus enable the development of policies to redirect those plastics back into the circular economy.
