STUDY on the impacts of the extension of the scope of the Geoblocking Regulation to audiovisual and non-audiovisual services giving access to copyright-protected content - SMART 2018/0036
The study will feed into the assessment of the scope of the Geoblocking Regulation, and in particular, as regards the inclusion of the audiovisual and non-audiovisual services giving access to copyright protected content in a possible revision of the scope of the Regulation. The study has two objectives: (a) to identify and gather data, both qualitative and quantitative, from the supply as well as demand side as regards the audiovisual and non-audiovisual services giving access to copyright protected content using primary and secondary data sources; (b) to undertake an impact analysis of a potential extension of the Geoblocking Regulation to the above identified sectors, where the trader has the required rights for the relevant territories, taking into account the following aspects: — impact on the sectors concerned, — impact on all relevant actors depending on the sector, including rights holders and distributors, and — impact on consumers.
