The health and social benefits of nature and biodiversity protection.
The study will explore the potential health and social benefits associated with the protection and enhancement of biodiversity in the EU, it will identify opportunities for further developing and increasing these benefits, it will identify possible tools for mapping of social values and health benefits that could be linked to natural environment (green spaces including Natura 2000 areas) and also make recommendations on how actions at the EU level could serve to promote the linkages between biodiversity policy and social policy more effectively. The study will pay particular attention to the health and social benefits associated with the Natura 2000 network. The study will evaluate the existing evidence concerning the linkages between biodiversity, public health, social cohesion and human well-being, identify the stakeholders that are most concerned with the biodiversity/health/social inclusion nexus and related governance issues, identify and present best practice examples. The contract also involves organising a workshop and formulating conclusions and recommendations from the study.
