Analysing the Effect of Residential Solid Waste Burning on Ambient Air Quality in Europe and Potential Mitigation Measures
The project's main objective is to assess the contribution of residential solid waste burning to air pollution, notably of particulate matter (PM) but also benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P), in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. Based on these findings, it should also assess the need and possibilities for action at local, regional, national or EU level and develop a strategy for reducing such emissions, making links with plans and programmes required by EU acquis. The objective of this pilot project is to build further on the ongoing study (ENV.C.3/SER/2018/0005) which looks at the nature and magnitude of solid waste burning for residential heating in Hungary and Romania and its contribution to air pollution, notably in terms of PM.
