Supporting the impact assessment on the effects of mid- and long-term IMO climate measures on the Pacific Island countries, and advancing effective partnerships in IMO climate change related meetings
This action aims to support ambitious climate action in IMO by strengthening the Pacific Island States (PIS) in the organisation and their effective co-operation with the EU. The objective is to enable PIS to prepare for and participate in IMO, so they can actively support an ambitious revision of the IMO GHG strategy and contribute to the assessment of mid- and long-term IMO climate measures. For this, the project will fund a study to identify and analyse data on PIS which will be used to assess the impacts of future measures. A shortage of data from the region complicates the assessment of the effects of the measures, which the study will remedy. Secondly, this project will organise regional workshops and high-level meetings to facilitate shared EU-Pacific position in the negotiations on IMO, and provide technical assistance for PIS. The meetings will take place in 2023 and 2024. The action supports existing and successful EU-Pacific co-operation.
