Experiential Learning in Vocational Education and Training (VET) – Lessons for ICT Mediated Learning
Please note that this is not a call for tenders but a publication announcing the Contracting authority’s intention to publish a future negotiated low or middle valueprocedure.

The purpose of this contract is to generate knowledge and spread understanding about, as well as explore new approaches for experiential learning in initial and/ or continued Vocational Education and Training (VET) and other learning sectors that can inform secondary education in a post-Covid-19 outburst environment in the EU. The aim of this contract is to produce a minimum of 6 in-depth case studies, looking into application of experiential learning beyond the classroom, analyse them, and extrapolate lessons that can be shared within the wider education and training community. The focus will be primarily on VET (initial and/or continued VET) but can span over other learning contexts and will concentrate on the promotion of a key competence for lifelong learning. The study will look in particular at work-based VET, including apprenticeships, with the purpose to understand how effective experiential learning beyond the classroom is and what can be transferred to other contexts. The contractor will examine how experiential learning methods by “breaking the walls” of the classroom and focusing on creating value for others, can be leveraged to ease transition to online/blended learning formats across format education and training systems in scenarios where social distancing remains a constraint to resuming school-based education. The contractor will collect qualitative information in the field both form educators and learners, by way of in-depth semi-structured interviews, focus groups and/or direct observations. The analysis of the data collected will help understand: how – in VET – experiential learning interventions that are open to the external ecosystem facilitate the acquisition of entrepreneurship competence, other key competences (e.g. digital, personal social and learning to learn) and of curricular subjects, what the necessary conditions to be embedded for effective student learning are and what aspects of teaching and learning (including assessment) can be transferred to online/ blended learning settings.
