Tytuł	Ex-Ante publicity notice for a study on “Nano-specific alternative methods in human risk/safety assessment under different EU regulations, considering the animal testing bans already in place for cosmetics and its ingredients”
Opis	The European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) aims to improve the transparency of information on the safety and markets of nanomaterials. One of the main ways to achieve this objective is by running studies to address important knowledge gaps on nanomaterials. Since 2009, the European Union (EU) has banned animal testing on ingredients or combination of ingredients for cosmetics. At the same time, there is a need to ensure the safe use of cosmetics put on the EU market. Nanomaterials are used in a variety of cosmetics ingredients, and the testing of nanomaterials often requires specific adaptations of the test regime. Therefore, the safety assessment of nanomaterials used in cosmetics ingredients requires a thorough understanding of alternatives to animal testing and their applicability to nanomaterials. The study will be conducted as a systematic literature review on the currently available, nano-specific replacement methods for the testing of the safety of nanomaterials. In addition, this literature review shall be complemented with expert interviews/surveys. The study objective is to identify validated alternative methods, methods currently under validation, identification of the most promising methods to undergo validation, as well as identify needs/make recommendations for further development in this area. The study results will be peer-reviewed as part of the set deliverables in the contract. Maximum estimated contract value is 60 000 Euros.
