Concerning the management of environmental data and product repositories (6.2 – scope of the contract) – who will provide the thechnical infrastructure for repositories and what are estimated amounts of environmental data. What does „multiple years“ mean – can the terms be longer than the contract period?
20/04/2017
The EEA provides the technical infrastructure for repositories. In 2016 there were produced approximately 115 maps, 130 dynamic charts and 50 other graphical representations plus metadata for all products. Behind the maps and charts we have the environmental data harvest from either the EEA data repositories or delivered by external providers. It is difficult to state a number for the amount of data. As a rule of thumb, one or two datasets are delivered for each map and chart in average. Sometime the same dataset is used many times for different products. Depending on the frequency of the publication of the external data products can be the ‘latest updated version’ for several years. With regards to "multiple years", indeed the terms for a few products and datasets can be longer than the duration of the framework contract – these products and datasets will also be the latest updated version for quite a while.
