Question
Under the provision of secretarial services, in connection with the task of "Accepting of new members for EMA by verifying that the candidate for membership is a current student or has graduated from one of the EMJMD programmes", can you please clarify how many new member registrations on average are received each year?

Reference is made to task 4 of the tender specifications. Membership of the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association (EMA) is open to current students and to alumni. The figure of member registrations will thus be a combination of (a) current Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD) students starting their courses who are joining EMA as students, (b) current graduates, who choose to join EMA on graduation, and (c) alumni who may join or return to the Association after graduation. Statistics on the website of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) show that on average some 2 000 EU scholarship-holders join EMJMD programmes every year. There are also a similar number of fee-paying students who are also able to join EMA. As EMJMDs need to be sustainable, they need to attract fee-paying students to match as far as possible the scholarship-winners. We therefore estimate that on an annual basis, applications to join EMA (current students, graduates and alumni) could range from 2 000 to 5 000 per year. Task 4 will become less labour-intensive after an automated system for member registration will be in place (see also the related task 8). Please note that the above estimate is not binding on the contracting authority and cannot create any legitimate expectations to the future contractor with respect to task 4. Any task to be implemented under a specific contract will be based on a specific request for service.
