Question details
Data use and processing of personal data
(1) Understanding that EIGE will own the collected data from the online panel survey, would it be possible to make use of that data for academic purposes? Is there any process that allows using that data for academic publications? (2) The contract indicate that personal data shall be processed within EU/EEA territory. If the main data processing will be done in the UK, will the contractor need any special authorisation to store the data?
02/06/2020
1. Any processing of personal data must be done for a specific and well-defined purpose with a data subject's consent. Data may be processed for additional purposes that are compatible with the original purpose, such as for scientific research, in accordance with Article 13 of Regulation 2018/1725.Further, the principles of data protection do not apply to anonymous information, namely information which does not relate to an identified or identifiable natural person or to personal data rendered anonymous in such a manner that the data subject is not or no longer identifiable. If the data will be anonymised, their further use would have no data protection implications. The process will be explained during the project implementation. 2. A transition period began on 1 February 2020, which is due to end on 31 December 2020. After the end of the transition period, the UK will continue to apply EU data protection rules to the current “stock of personal data”, until the EU, through an adequacy decision, establishes that the UK’s data protection rules provide safeguards which are essentially equivalent to those in the EU. EIGE will continue to operate in accordance with the timelines set by its rules and regulations throughout the BREXIT process.
